Elmhurst Snaps Carthage Winning Streak

ELMHURST, Ill. -  The Elmhurst University men's soccer team fought back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Carthage College 2-1 in a key CCIW match at Langhorst Field.

After a scoreless first half, both teams came out eager to be the first on the board.  Carthage's (11-6-2) Joe Balas set up a header goal for teammate Mickey Reilly off of a corner kick in the 48th minute of play to give the Firebirds the 1-0 lead.

The Bluejays were able to tie the game up at one by taking advantage of a Carthage handball resulting in a free kick.  Elmhurst's (8-7-2) Raffa Consalvo served the ball into the box where fellow Bluejay Brady Lucas was able to head the ball in for his third goal of the season.

With just seven minutes left to play, Elmhurst's Lucas found Cailan Loebel who found the back of the net, breaking the tie and giving the Bluejays the 2-1 lead.

Firebird goalkeeper, Christian Lekki, tallied two saves in the contest, while Bluejay goalkeeper, Noah Reed, earned the win with seven saves.

Elmhurst closes out this season's final home game with a Senior Day on Sunday, October 31 against UW-Platteville.
