ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University volleyball team closed out its own Elmhurst Invitational with a 3-1 overall record. The Bluejays toppled Kalamazoo College in three sets before falling in four to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Elmhurst improved to 9-7 overall and ran its win streak to eight before it was snapped against UW-River Falls.
ELMHURST 3, KALAMAZOO 0 - Elmhurst opened the tournament's second day with a convincing 25-7, 25-12, 25-16 win over Kalamazoo College.Â
The Bluejays trailed only twice in the entire match while coasting to the three-set victory.
Elmhurst hit .294 with 29 kills and nine errors in 68 attempts. The Bluejays added eight blocks in the victory.
Jada Wiley led a balanced Elmhurst attack that featured nine different players tallying kills in the victory. Wiley hit .316 for the contest and added two blocks as well.
Katelyn Bower finished with six kills and four blocks while
Emily Duis added three kills and four blocks.
Ally Severino came off the bench to total three kills and four blocks.
Elise Rossing added five kills for the Bluejays.
Kellyn Kennedy tallied 17 assists and five digs while
Valerie Thomas led the squad in digs with eight.Â
Charlotte Ruiter led Kalamazoo with six kills.Â
UW-RIVER FALLS, ELMHURST 1 - Elmhurst had its eight-match win streak snapped in a 25-22, 14-25, 20-25, 23-25 loss to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.Â
Elmhurst built a comfortable 17-10 lead in the opening set before holding off a late surge from the Falcons to score the 25-22 win. UW-River Falls roared back in the second, opening up an early 12-4 lead before coasting to the 25-14 win. The third set was even at 10-10 before UW-River Falls, used a 9-1 run to open up a 19-11 advantage on route to the 25-20 win. The Falcons quickly pulled out in front in the fourth set, leading 22-16 before Elmhurst made one last charge. The Bluejays pulled to within two points at 22-20 and fought off one match point before falling 25-23.Â
Elmhurst hit .182 for the contest with 52 kills and 24 errors.
Taylor Zurliene led the offense with 17 kills while Jad Wiley added 12 kills for the Bluejays. Duis finished with eight kills while Rossing added six.
Erin Murray tallied 31 assists and six digs for the Bluejays while
Valerie Thomas totaled a team-leading 24 digs.Â
Kameri Meredith led the Falcons with 19 kills and 15 digs while Sarah Langlois finished with 14 kills.Â
Elmhurst plays at Carthage College on Wednesday, October 6.Â
