KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University volleyball team slipped to 2-2 in the CCIW after suffering a 25-21, 25-11, 25-19 road loss at Carthage College.
Elmhurst (9-8 overall) led the opening set 15-13, but Carthage (13-9, 3-1 CCIW) rattled off the next eight points to move in front at 21-15. The Bluejays pulled to within a point at 22-21, but Carthage scored the next three points to close out the set.
Carthage broke open a 5-5 tie in the second with an 11-2 run to open up a 16-7 cushion before coasting to the 25-11 win. The Firebirds opened the third set on a 9-2 run before holding off Elmhurst 25-19.
Elmhurst finished the contest hitting .119 with 28 kills and 16 errors.
Jada Wiley led the Bluejays in the loss with 10 kills and nine digs.
Elise Rossing added seven kills and four blocks while
Emily Duis chipped in with four kills and two blocks.
Valerie Thomas totaled a team-best 16 digs while
Erin Murray led the squad in assists with 21.
Carthage hit .240 for the contest with 40 kilsl and 15 errors. Haley Horner paced the Firebirds with 17 kills and seven digs. Molly Skoda tallied 11 kills and seven digs. Aubree Bucheger tallied a team-leading 20 digs.
Elmhurst travels to Wheaton College on Friday, October 8, to play the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
