CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to North Park University in the opening match of the CCIW Tournament.
North Park (4-8) swept the three doubles matches to take an early lead. Nikolina Kisin and Lisa Viuhkonen defeated Elmhurst's
Julia Kostadinova and
Isabella Rahman 8-4 at No. 1. At No. 2, the Bluejays' duo of
Silvia Barak and
Bailey Ekstrand fell 8-2 to Carla Cazes and Kate Vinson. The Bluejays' duo of
Alitza Munoz and Vallerie Schallmo fell 8-1 at No. 3 to Olivia De Luca and Madeline Starr.
In singles play, Elmhurst scored a point at No. 4 singles when Rahman defeated Mia McLennan 6-3, 6-1. North Park scored its three points to secure the win at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles. Cazes upended Barak 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 while Starr scored a 6-0, 7-5 win over Ekstrand at No. 3. Olivia De Luca defeated Engstrom 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5. Singles at No. 1 and No. 6 were unfinished.
