Baseball Team Sweeps Pair from IIT

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team upped its record to 3-0 on the season after sweeping both ends of a doubleheader from the Illinois Institute of Technology. The Bluejays took the opening game 17-7 before completing the sweep with a 6-2 win in game two.
 
ELMHURST 17, IIT 7 (Game One) – Elmhurst recorded 19 hits en route to handing IIT a 17-7 loss in game one of the doubleheader.
 
IIT scored twice in the top of the first, but the Bluejays quickly bounced back, scoring four times in the bottom of the first. Lorenzo Farino and Chad Tucker singled home runs and Zachary Meitzner doubled in two runs to put the Bluejays in front for good.
 
Tyler Kledzik and Jordan Scrimpsher smacked back-to-back doubles in the second to extend Elmhurst's lead to 6-2. The Bluejays broke things open in the fifth, sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring six runs. Trevor Horwath delivered a two-run double in the frame for the Bluejays.
 
Scrimpsher led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI. Tucker, Kledzik and Horwath collected three hits apiece in the win. Horwath drove in a pair while Tucker scored three runs and knocked in three. Farino finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Meitzner added three RBIs for Elmhurst in the win.
 
Alex Kielion picked up the win for Elmhurst, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing eight hits and five runs. He walked two while striking out two.
 
ELMHURST 6, IIT 2 (Game Two) – The Bluejays scored four runs in the fourth and Jay Palmer pitched six strong innings to propel the Bluejays to the four-run victory.
 
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Elmhurst erupted for four runs in the fourth. Horwath keyed the big inning with a two-run single. Scrimpsher blasted a solo home run in the fifth to extend Elmhurst's lead to 5-1. Jonathan Mays added an RBI in the eighth to account for Elmhurst's final run.
 
Tucker led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits. Paul Fomby, Thomas, Kledzik and Charlie May added two hits apiece for the Bluejays. Fomby drove in one and scored two runs.
 
Palmer worked six strong innings, limiting IIT to just three hits and one unearned run. He struck out five while not issuing a walk. Jaysn Miller pitched the final three innings to earn the save. Miller allowed one run and one hit. He fanned four and walked one.
 
Elmhurst will take on IIT tomorrow in a third-game of the weekend series.
