JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team bashed five home runs, including two apiece from
Jordan Scrimpsher and
Jonathan Mays, while completing a three-game sweep of the Illinois Institute of Technology with a 16-7 win.

Elmhurst remained unbeaten on the young season, improving to 4-0 with the victory.

The Bluejays jumped on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the first inning after
Tyler Kledzik smacked a two-run homer to center. IIT answered back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead. Elmhurst pulled even at 3-3 after
Trevor Horwath singled in a run.

The Scarlet Hawks jumped in front with three runs in the fourth, but the Bluejays answered back, tying the game at 6-6 after Mays cracked a two-out, three-run homer to left. The Bluejays blew the game open in the sixth by scoring four runs. Scrimpsher delivered the big blow in the inning, hitting a three-run homer to center field. IIT pulled to within three runs with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Elmhurst put the game away with six runs in the last three innings. Mays smashed his second three-run homer of the game in the eighth while Scrimpsher blasted a two-run shot in the ninth.

Elmhurst totaled 16 hits in the contests. Scrimspser, Mays and Horwath all finished with three hits apiece. Mays scored runs and drove in six while Scrimpsher scored two runs and knocked in five. Horwath scored twice and drove in a run while Kledzik scored three times and dove in a pair.
Drew Raspolich collected two hits and scored twice in the win.

Fred Birr made the start for the Bluejays and worked four innings in a no-decision. Birr allowed six runs and 10 hits over four innings of work. He walked two and struck out two.
Noah Jordan earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing just four hits, one walk and one run while fanning three.
Tyler Sloan struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for the Bluejays.
