Scrimpsher Powers Bluejays Past Wilmington

DAYTON, Ohio – Jordan Scrimpsher smashed a game-winning home run and drove in three runs to lead the Elmhurst baseball team to a 7-5 win over Wilmington College in the Bluejays' season-opener.

Poor field conditions shortened the scheduled doubleheader down to just one single game.

Elmhurst grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Scrimpsher doubled home a run. A Wilmington error allowed Scrimpsher to score to stake Elmhurst to a quick two-run cushion.

Wilmington answered back with a run in the bottom of the first and three runs in the top of the second to move in front 4-2.

The Bluejays pulled even with two runs in the top of the sixth. Carter Truong doubled home a run and then scored on a Wilmington error to knot the score at 4-4.

The Quakers pushed home a run in the bottom of the sixth to move back in front at 5-4, but Elmhurst answered back with three runs in the seventh. Tyler Kledzik doubled Trevor Horwath to tie the game and Scrimpsher followed with a two-run blast to put the Bluejays back in front for good.

Scrimpsher led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIS. Kledzik added two hits, scored three runs and also drove in a run. Trevor Horwath added two hits and scored a run for the Bluejays.

Jaysn Miller earned the win in relief. Miller pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. Miller, Fred Birr and Alex Kielion combined to strike out 15 batters.
