Bluejays Drop Home Opener to Beloit 18-4

ELMHURST, ILL. – The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team opened the 2020 season with an 18-4 loss to Beloit College at Langhorst Field.

Beloit (1-0) scored six the first six goals of the game, opening up a 6-0 lead midway through the first half. Larissa Arvanites scored the Bluejays (0-1) only goal of the first half off of a free position attempt with fifteen minutes left. The Buccaneers went on a 5-0 run for the remainder of the half, leading Elmhurst 11-1 at halftime.

In the second half, the Bluejays' offense generated more scoring opportunities but could not keep up with Beloit's 18 goals on the afternoon, dropping their first game of the season 18-4.

Beloit outshot Elmhurst 31-14 in the contest and carried a 22-16 lead in ground balls. Abby Derick recorded nine save in goal for the Bluejays in the loss.
Elmhurst was led by Kalie Miller's 2 goals, five ground balls, and four draw control wins. Arvanites added one goal and one assist. Catie Schenatzki added a goal for the Bluejays. Elmhurst's defense was led by Marie Corpuz's three ground balls and one caused turnover.

Beloit was led by Kieran Rodning's eight goals, scoring on eight of her eleven shot attempts. She was assisted by Nicole Dolcimascol's six goals, two assists, and nine draw control wins. The Buccaneers' goalkeeper, Alexa Arakelian recorded five saves as she secured her first win of the season.

Elmhurst hosts Concordia University-Chicago on February 26, 2020.
