ADA, OHIO – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team fell short to Capital University 13-12 in overtime.
Marcus Yandall scored two goals for Elmhurst in the opening quarter helping to keep the score even at 3-3 after 15 minutes. In the second quarter, the Bluejays took a 6-5 lead after Cullen Noredman finished a man-up goal and Yandall earned a hattrick before the end of the first half.
Capital won all seven face-offs' in the third period, helping the Crusaders outscore Elmhurst 4-3 and tying the game at 9-9 after three quarters. In the fourth period, Elmhurst found themselves down 12-11 with five minutes left in the game. After the Bluejays were unable to capitalize on a few possessions, they lost the ball with 19 seconds left. Elmhurst deflected a pass, moved it quickly off the ground, and found
Ben Luke open who scored with four seconds left to force overtime. Unfortunately, the Crusaders were able to score just under two minutes into overtime, giving Elmhurst their second lost on the 2020 season.
The Bluejays were led by attackman Yandall and Luke, scoring four goals each and combining for 11 points on the afternoon.
Trent Nyberg led the Bluejay defense with three caused turnovers while
Nick McClary helped securing four ground balls.
The Crusaders were led by CJ Hughes' six goals and two assists. Talbott Gottwals scored on four of his eight shot opportunities while Carter McCormick added a goal of his one and three assists.
The Bluejays return to action next Saturday (February 25 2020) at Albion College.
