ADA, OHIO – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team dropped its season opening game to Ohio Northern University 9-5 on the road.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period Ben Luke scored the first goal of his career but the Bluejays found themselves trailing the Polar Bears 2-1 after one quarter. Ohio Northern (2-0) gained momentum in the second quarter, outshooting Elmhurst 11-4 and outscoring the Bluejays 6-0. Headed into the locker room, the Bluejays trailed the Polar Bears 8-1.

Elmhurst recorded 12 ground balls to Ohio Northern's two and the Bluejays won all three faceoffs in the third quarter, but unfortunately the Bluejays could only score on one of their six shot attempts. Elmhurst trailed Ohio Northern 9-2 headed into the final quarter. Elmhurst outscored Ohio Northern 3-0 in the fourth quarter but came no closer, falling by a final score of 9-5.

The Bluejays' offense was led by Luke's three goals and Marcus Yandall's two goals and one assist. Nate Yuhas finished with a 63.3 face-off percentage, winning seven of his eleven attempts. Braden King won all six of his faceoff attempts, giving his squad a good 50/50 chance coming off of the wings. Elmhurst finished with 34 ground balls while the Polar Bears only had 17.

Ohio Northern was led by Pat Berthelsen-Leon's three goals and two assists. Patrick Moran helped lead his squad scoring one goal and recording two assists. Joe O'Connell added two goals for the Polar Bears. Cole Zaferakis finished with 19 saves while only allowing five goals total.

The Bluejays will compete  tomorrow against Capital University at Ohio Northern University at 3:00 P.M.
