STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team opened up the two-day UW-Stevens Point Invitational with a three-set loss to the host Pointers.
UW-Stevens Point (5-0) scored the win 25-21, 25-17, 25-23 to drop Elmhurst to 1-4 on the season.
Elmhurst hit .220 for the match in the loss, finishing with 32 kills and just eight errors in 109 attacks. UW-Stevens Point proved to be too strong on offense, finishing with 54 kills while hitting .293 for the contest.Â
Bailey Brower led Elmhurst in the loss, finishing with seven kills and three blocks.
Taylor Zurliene added seven kills and four digs while Kalya Mast and
Ellie Burzlaff tallied five kills apiece.
Payton Froats totaled four kills and a match-high five blocks.
Emily Finkbeiner tallied 14 assists while
Hannah Horn finished with 13.
Valerie Thomas led the team in digs with 14.
April Gehl powered UW-Stevens Point with a 20-kill, eight-dig performance. Gehl hit .333 for the match. Maddie Lawson added 12 kills while hitting a team-best .417. Tara Emme finished with eight kills while Ellie Adams totaled 45 assists.
Elmhurst takes on Ripon College and Concordia University (Wis.) tomorrow (September 8) on the tournament's second day.
