WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team dropped its CCIW-opening contest to Carroll University, falling 9-0 to the Pioneers.
Carroll (3-4, 1-3 CCIW) swept all three doubles matches before taking all six singles contests.
In doubles action, Elmhurst's
Ysabel Gonzaga and
Dacey Maglaque fell 8-2 to Grace Krueger and Ashley LaBelle at No. 1. Maya Gaedtke and Carolyn Merkatoris downed the Bluejays' duo of
Bailey Ekstrand and
Lindsey McAuliffe 8-2 at No. 2. The Pioneers' tandem of Rachel Papp and Erika Bosman defeated the Bluejays' pairing of
Kristina Radakovic and
Silvia Barak 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Krueger downed Gonzaga 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 while LaBelle toppled Ekstrand 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Gaedtke stopped Maglaque 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 while Merkatoris earned a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 win over Barak at No. 4 singles. Lora Leach downed McAuliffe 7-6, 6-2 at No. 5. Papp needed three sets to get past Elmhurs'ts
June Bering 5-7, 6-3, 10-4 at No. 6.
Elmhurst (0-4, 0-1) hosts Wheaton College on Saturday, September 28.
