Bluejays Drop Pair at DePauw Tourney

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Elmhurst volleyball team closed out its stay at the DePauw University tournament by dropping a pair of matches. Elmhurst fell in three sets to the host Tigers before dropping a four-set affair to Alma.
 
Elmhurst moved to 3-7 on the season with the losses. Kayla Mast was named to the all-tournament team for her play over the two-day tournament.
 
DEPAUW 3, ELMHURST 0 – DePauw handed the Bluejays a 25-20, 25-21, 25-21 loss to start the tournament's second day of competition.

DePauw hit .237 for the match (38 kills and 10 errors in 118 attacks) while Elmhurst finished the contest hitting .122 with 42 kills and 25 errors in 139 attacks.
 
Bailey Brouwer, Ellie Burzlaff and Mast led Elmhurst's attack with seven kills apiece. Mast added a team-high 15 digs in the loss. Payton Froats totaled five kills and four blocks for Elmhurst while Hannah Horn led the team in assists with 15. Emily Finkbeiner tallied 14 assists and Valerie Thomas chipped in with 12 digs.
 
Morgan Stearley and Liv Hartman led DePauw's offense with 10 kills apiece. Jenna Purichia totaled a match-high 16 digs.
 
ALMA 3, ELMHURST 0 – Elmhurst closed out the tournament with a 24-26, 23-25, 25-22, 24-26 slugfest to Alma.
 
The match was tightly-contested throughout with the opening set tied at 23-23, the second set tied at 22-all. The third set was even at 21-21 and the final set was even at 24-24.
 
Mast led Elmhurst in the loss with 15 kills and 14 digs. Froats, Brouwer and Taylor Zurliene finished with 11 kills apiece in the loss. Zurliene finished with 20 digs while Thomas led the squad in digs with 25. Horn tallied 24 assists and Finkbeiner finished with 23 for the Bluejays. Emily Duis led Elmhurst at the net, totaling seven blocks to go with six kills.
 
Sara Majerle led Alma with 25 kills and 22 digs while Haley Ullrich added 14 kills for the Scots.
 
Elmhurst travels to Lake Forest College on Wednesday, September 18.
