GREENCASTLE, IND. – The Elmhurst volleyball team picked up its third win of the season by cruising past Westminster College (Mo.) 25-11, 25-18, 25-12 in the Bluejays' opening game of the DePauw University Tournament.
Elmhurst improved to 3-5 with the victory after breezing to the win. The Bluejays jumped out to an early lead in the first set before cruising to the 14-point win. Elmhurst fell behind 10-2 but rattled off a 12-2 run to open up a 14-12 lead. With the score even at 14-14, Elmhurst closed the set with an 11-4 run. The Bluejays scored the opening point of the third set and never trailed, coasting to the 25-12 win to finish off the match.
Elmhurst hit .226 for the match with 30 kills and nine errors in 93 swings. Westminster committed 25 errors in the contest, hitting -.036 for the match.
Kayla Mast led the way with seven kills and 10 digs while
Ellie Burzlaff added six kill for Elmhurst.
Bailey Brouwer and
Emily Duis finished with five kills apiece.
Taylor Zurliene led the team in digs with 15 while
Valerie Thomas finished with 12 digs and four aces.
Emily Finkbeiner tallied 15 assists while
Hannah Horn totaled 10.
Elmhurst takes on Alma and DePauw tomorrow (September 14).
