FOX POINT, Wis. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team opened the 2019 season by dropping a pair of matches on the road. The Bluejays fell 8-1 to Loras College before dropping a 6-3 decision to MSOE.
LORAS 8, ELMHURST 1 - Loras swept the three doubles matches and won five of the six singles contests to earn the 8-1 win.
The three doubles matches were tightly contested with Loras winning by no more than three points. Elmhurst's
Ysabel Gonzaga and
Bailey Ekstrand fell 8-5 to Audrey Hinz and Noely Baumann at No. 1. The Duhawks' Sara Backus and Lauren Diiulio edged Elmhurst's No. 2 pairing of
Nina Pasquini and
Sydney Misiek 8-6. Elmhurst's
Dacey Maglaque and
June Bering fell 8-5 to Meghann Long and Maddie Smith at No. 3 doubles.
Elmhurst's socred its only point of the day at No. 1 singles when Gonzaga toppled Hinz 7-5, 6-1.
MSOE 6, ELMHURST 3 - Elmhurst fell to 0-2 on the season after dropping a 6-3 decision to MSOE.
MSOE (1-2) swept the three doubles matches before the two squads split the six singles matches.
Elmhurst scored wins at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6 singles. Pasquini defeated Hannah Marron 6-2, 6-4 at No 3 singles. Maglaque earned a win over Leah Becker at No. 5 singles. Maglaque won the first set 6-1 and was up 3-0 in the second when Becker was forced to retire. Bering dispatched Olivia Boden 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles for the Bluejays' final point.
Elmhurst hosts Roosevelt on September 13.
