ELMHURST, Ill. - Seven different Bluejays scored multiple goals as the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team cruised to a 27-4 win over Carroll University in both squads' CCIW opening contest.
Elmhurst ran its record to 6-4 overall while moving to 1-0 in league play. Carroll remained winless, sliding to 0-10 overall and 0-1 in league play.Â
Elmhurst dominated the contest from start to finish, outshooting Carroll 73-14 and holding a 51-7 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays also won 32-of-35 faceoffs in the contest.
Elmhurst scored the first five goals of the game to jump out to a quick lead.
Nick McClary put the Blueajys on the scoreboard first, scoring less than two minutes into the game.
Mac Harden and
Marcus Yandall alternated the next four goals to lead Elmhurst to a 5-0 lead. After Carroll scored to cut Elmhurst's lead to four, Yandall and
Ty Funderburk scored six seconds apart to to end the first quarter with the Bluejays in front 7-1.Â
Elmhurst controlled the second quarter, outscoring Carroll 11-0. Funderburk, Harden, Yandall and
Andrew Frerich each scored multiple goals in the quarter while
Cullen Nordeman and
Sante Dybowski also found the back of the net for the Bluejays.Â
Elmhurst outscored Carroll 3-1 in the third quarter and 6-2 in the fourth to pull away for the 23-goal win.Â
Elmhurst's 27 goals scored matched the team's single-game record set during the 2015 season and matched again in 2018.Â
Yandall finished the game with nine points, totaling five goals and four assists. Harden tallied six points on five goals and an assist while Funderburk finished with six points on three goals and three assists. Dybowski totaled five points with four goals and an assist while Frerich tallied four points on three goals and an assist.
Nate Yuhas and
Jakob Hunter totaled two goals apiece while
Luke Richardson tallied four assists.
Mike Foytlin, Nordeman and McClary each added goals for the Bluejays.
Carter Meyer won 17-of-18 faceoffs and totaled 10 ground balls.Â
Jake Delgado earned the win in goal, allowing just one goal in the first half while recording one save.
Noah Bachofen recorded a save and allowed a goal while playing the third quarter.
Harry Meredith and
Justin Nguyen split the fourth quarter and each allowed one goal.Â
Elmhurst plays at the University of Dubuque on Wednesday, April 10.
