WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team dropped both of ends of a doubleheader at Wheaton College, falling 9-3 in game one and losing 2-1 in game two despite a great pitching performance from
Jordan Scrimpsher.

Elmhurst fell to 8-13 overall and 2-6 in the CCIW while Wheaton upped its record to 16-6 overall and 6-3 in league play.

WHEATON 9, ELMHURST 3 – Wheaton scored five runs over the final four innings to pull away for a 9-3 win in game one.

The Thunder plated a run in the first and then added three runs in the fifth with two coming on a Joel Pierce RBI double. Elmhurst cut the lead in half in the sixth inning on
Karson Thomas' RBI single and a Wheaton error.

The Thunder answered back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of a pair of Elmhurst errors in the inning and extended their lead to 7-2. Elmhurst pushed home a run in the seventh on a bases loaded walk to
Jordan Scrimpsher, but a strikeout ended the inning and the Bluejays' scoring threat. Wheaton tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh to make the final score 9-3.

Trey Compton recorded two of Elmhurst's seven hits in the loss.
Jay Palmer made the start and took the loss, working four innings and allowing four hits and four runs. He walked six and struck out four.

WHEATON 2, ELMHURST 1 (Game Two) – Wheaton broke a 1-1 tie on a Ben Brittain RBI triple in the seventh inning to top Elmhurst 2-1 in a pitching dual.

The Thunder grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Jesse Welch RBI single. Scrimpsher settled in retiring 13 of the next 15 batters Elmhurst tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth, with Scrimpsher singling home
Tyler Kledzik.

Brittan put the Thunder in front in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out triple.

The Bluejays were held to only four hits in the loss with Scrimpsher recording two.

Scrimpsher tossed a complete game, throwing eight innings and scattering eight hits and two runs. He did not issue a walk and struck out a career-high 13.

Caleb Selk made the start for Wheaton and took a no-decision, working six innings and allowing three hits and one run. He walked two and struck out two. Luke Kram picked up the win in relief, tossing the final three innings and allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Elmhurst hosts Aurora University on Monday, April 8.
