WAUEKSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst baseball team split a CCIW road doubleheader with Carroll University. The Bluejays fell 4-3 in game one before bouncing back to take game two 9-7.

Elmhurst moved to 9-19 on the season and 3-11 in the CCIW with the split. Carroll, 11-17 overall, moved to 3-11 in conference play.

CARROLL 4, ELMHURST 3 (Game One) – Carroll scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 4-3 walkoff win over Elmhurst in game one.

After a scoreless six innings, Elmhurst jumped on the scoreboard with a three-run seventh inning. RBI singles from
Tyler Kledzik and
Jordan Scrimpsher put Elmhurst up 2-0. A fielder's choice grounder from
Colin Winston also drove in a run for Elmhurst.

Carroll used a Dylan Callahan solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to get on the scoreboard. Callahan delivered again for the Pioneers, delivering a two-run single in the eighth to tie the score at 3-3. TJ Pfaffle bunted in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth to give Carroll the victory.

Alex Kielion pitched well but took the loss for Elmhurst. Kielion worked eight innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. He walked one and fanned two. Cameron Godinsky went the distance for Carroll, pitching a complete game and allowing four hits and two earned runs while fanning two.

ELMHURST 9, CARROLL 7 (Game Two) – Elmhurst snapped a nine-game skid with a 9-7 win over Carroll in game two.

Elmhurst took advantage of a Carroll error to score two runs in the first. Carroll cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the first but
Trey Compton singled home a run in the second to extend the Bluejays' lead back to two at 3-1. Carroll answered back with two runs in the third to pull even at 3-3.

Elmhurst moved ahead for good with a four-run fourth inning.
Jacob McMillan delivered the key hit for the Bluejays, smashing a bases-clearing, three-run double to drive in three runs. Scrimpsher followed with a sacrifice fly to put Elmhurst up 7-3. Carroll scored two in the fourth and another in the fifth to pull to within a run at 7-6, but a
Trey Compton RBI double and a Carroll error gave the Bluejays a 9-6 lead in the eight. Carroll added a run on a Callahan homer in the ninth, but the Bluejays held on for the 9-7 win.

Drew Raspolich, Compton and
Chad Tucker finished with two hits apiece for the Bluejays. McMillan drove in three while Compton knocked in two. Scrimpsher and Tucker both added RBIs in the win.

Fred Birr earned the win for the Bluejays. Birr worked six innings and allowed eight hits and five earned runs. He struck out three while not issuing a walk.
Nathan Tovell struck out the final two batters of the game to earn the save. Curtis Sheahan took the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs in three innings of work.

Elmhurst and Carroll play the final game of their three-game series tomorrow (April 20) at Butterfield Park.
