Bluejays Topple Olivet 18-2 for First Win

ELMHURST, Ill. – Kalie Miller and Larissa Arvanites combined for 11 goals to power the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team to an 18-2 win over Olivet College at Langhorst Field.
 
Elmhurst picked up its first victory of the season, upping its record to 1-2 on the year.
 
The Bluejays scored early and often, racing out a 10-1 lead in the opening half. Miller scored from free position less than a minute into the contest to put Elmhurst in front 1-0. Arvanites scored just 1:15 later to double the Bluejays' lead. Olivet (0-1) got on the scoreboard less than a minute later as Sabrina Butler found the back of the net. Butler's goal cut Elmhurst's lead down to 2-1.
 
The Bluejays rattled off the next eight goals before the half. Miller and Yaziria Cisneros scored three goals apiece in the 8-0 run while Arvanites added two goals, including one just before the halftime horn.
 
Elmhurst continued to pull away in the second half, scoring the first eight goals of the half to coast to the 16-goal victory.
 
Elmhurst outshot Olivet 40-6 in the contest and held a 21-16 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays were successful on 12-of-15 clearing attempts and converted four goals from free position.
 
Miller and Arvanites powered Elmhurst's attack with seven points apiece. Miller finished with six goals, an assist and six draw controls while Arvanites scored five times and added two assists. Cisneros tallied three goals and three ground balls for the Bluejays. Marissa Fico, Petra Kyriakopoulos, Tessa Sellentin and Marie Corpuz all added goals for Elmhurst. Corpuz added an assist to finish the day with two points while Ally Madden also tallied a pair of assists in the victory. Fico led the team in ground balls with seven.
 
Marissa Vaca earned her first win in goal, recording three saves and totaling one ground ball while allowing just two goals.
 
Butler and Alyssa Miller finished with a goal apiece to pace the Comets. Grace Forbush took the loss in goal, surrendering 18 goals while recording 11 saves.
 
Elmhurst hosts the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Sunday, March 10.
