WHITTIER, Calif. - Mac Harden scored seven goals and added two assists to lead the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team to a 20-6 win over Oberlin College.
The Bluejays upped their record to 3-4 on the season with the victory.
Oberlin (3-4) scored the game's first goal, but the Bluejays responded with goals from
Nate Yuhas,
Trent Nyberg and
Cullen Nordeman to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
Oberlin scored early in the second to cut the Bluejays' lead in half, but Elmhurst exploded, ripping off seven straight goals to close out the half. Harden scored four of the team's seven goals in the stretch.
The Bluejays continued their run to start the third, scoring the first four goals of the half to extend their lead to 14-2. Michael Purchnicki scored for Oberlin to break Elmhurst's 11-goal run, but the Bluejays scored the next four goals to open up an 18-3 lead before coasting to the 20-6 win.
Elmhurst outshot Oberlin 47-42 while Oberlin held a 32-30 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays were successful in 24-of-26 clear attempts.
Harden powered the Bluejays' attack, finishing with nine points on seven goals and two assists.
Marcus Yandall finished with four points, netting a hat trick of three goals and adding an assist. Yuhas totaled four points on two goals and two assists while Nordeman added three points on two goals and an assist. Nyberg, Sante Dobowski,
Mike Foytlin,
Andrew Frerich and
Luke Richardson all tallied goals for the Bluejays.
Jake Delgado was solid in goal for the Bluejays, recording 17 saves while allowing just six goals and recording the victory.
Alex Dovichi led Oberlin with three goals in the loss.
Elmhurst returns home to face Alma College on Sunday, March 31.
