Yandall & Harden Power Bluejays Past Alma

ELMHURST, Ill. – Marcus Yandall set a single-game assist record and Mac Harden scored six goals to lead the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team to a 17-4 victory Alma College at Langhorst Field.
 
Elmhurst upped its record to 4-4 overall while Alma slipped to 4-7 with the loss.
 
Elmhurst raced out to a quick 5-0 lead, scoring all five goals in the first quarter. Harden scored three times in the game's first 10 minutes, including just 1:05 into the contest to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard. Yandall and Andrew Frerich also scored in the game's first 15 minutes.
 
Alma scored early in the second to cut the Bluejays' lead down to 5-1, but Luke McAdams answered with a goal off a feed from Yandall to put Elmhurst back up by five at 6-1. A Jared Nycz man-up goal cut the Bluejays' lead back down to four with nine minutes remaining in the half, but Elmhurst scored three times in the final two minutes, including two goals from Harden, to take a 9-2 lead into the half.
 
Alma scored the first goal of the second half, but Elmhurst responded with a 7-0 run over the next 20 minutes to turn a 9-3 lead into a 16-3 advantage before closing out the game with a 13-goal victory.
 
Elmhurst outshot Alma 43-29 and held a 39-24 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays also won 18-of-25 faceoffs and converted 14-of-17 clear attempts.
 
Yandall set a new single-game Elmhurst assist record after finishing the game with eight assists. He surpassed the previous mark of seven held by teammate Ty Fundeburk. Yandall also scored twice to finish the game with 10 points. Harden totaled six goals in the victory for the Bluejays while Cullen Nordeman and McAdams added two goals apiece. Carter Meyer won 18 faceoffs, totaled 11 ground balls and also scored a goal. Nate Yuhas, Ryan Moran, and Frerich all finished with a goal in the victory.

Jake Delgado picked up the win in the cage, surrendering only four goals while recording 13 saves and five ground balls.
 
Jared Nycz led Alma with three points on two goals and an assist. Cameron Stelljes took the loss in net, surrendering 13 goals and committing six turnovers in 43 minutes of action. Stelljes finished with seven saves for the Scots.
 
Elmhurst plays host to Albion College on Thursday, April 4, at 7:00 p.m.
