ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team outshot DePauw University 34-21, but the Bluejays found themselves on the short end of an 8-4 final score.
DePauw (1-4)scored the first four goals of the contest and never looked back. Elmhurst (2-2) got on the scoreboard with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Marcus Yandall scored off a
Mac Harden assist on a man-advantage to make the score 4-1. DePauw pushed their lead back to four goals just before the half as Jack Richey netted his third goal of the game to stake the Tigers to a 5-1 halftime lead.
Elmhurst cut the deficit in half midway through the third quarter.
Dan O'Connell scored of a
Nate Yuhas assist with 8:44 left. Harden followed with a goal three minutes later off a feed from
Mike Foytlin to make the score 5-3.
Richey scored his fourth goal of the contest with 1:48 left in the third to put the Tigers back up by three. Ben Davis stuffed home a goal early in the fourth to put DePauw back up by four. Harden scored his second goal of the contest off an
Andrew Lentz assist with just under 12 minutes remaining, but the Bluejays came no closer as DePauw tacked on an insurance goal in the final minute to come away with the 8-4 win.
Elmhurst outshot the Tigers by 13 (34-21), but DePauw rarely missed the net, putting 18 of its 21 shots on goal. The Bluejays held a 29-28 edge in ground balls but turned the ball over 26 times.
Harden led the Bluejays in the loss with three points on two goals and an assist.
Carter Meyer won eight faceoffs and totaled five ground balls.
Noah Bachofen took the loss in goal despite recording 10 saves.
Richey led the Tigers with four goals while Davis added two. Luke Ruiz-Funes picked up the win in goal with 14 saves.
Elmhurst plays at Colorado College on March 16.
