ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season with a 20-1 loss to Cornell College at Langhorst Field.

Cornell (1-0) scored early and often as the Rams struck for five goals in the first 4:30 of action to open up a quick 5-0 lead. Kaile Miller accounted for Elmhurst's only score with 24:31 left in the opening half, after she stuffed home a rebound on a
Larissa Arvanites shot. Cornell closed the first half on a 9-0 run to carry a 14-1 lead into halftime. The Rams tacked on six more goals in the second half to pull away for the 19-0 win.

Cornell outshot Elmhurst (0-1) 35-9 in the contest and carried a 26-19 lead in ground balls.
Marissa Vaca recorded 10 saves in goal for the Bluejays in the loss.

Nina Deer led Cornell with four goals and an assists while Raquel Gassmann and Lexi Dattbarn scored three goals apiece. Sierra Harris and Maddie Althoff shared the game in goal. Harris earned the win while recording five saves.

Elmhurst hosts Monmouth College on February 27.
