ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst College football team suffered a 38-14 loss to Carthage College in front of a homecoming crowd at Langhorst Field.

Carthage (2-2, 2-1 CCIW) scored 31 straight points from the first to third quarter to turn a 7-7 tie into a 38-7 Red Men lead. Carthage scored on its opening possession of the game, driving 54 yards and taking a an early lead on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Colton Klein to Brett Patton.

Elmhurst (1-3, 1-2 CCIW) responded on its ensuing possession, string together an impressive six play, 75-yard scoring drive highlighted by a 34-yard run from
Jake Tahaney. Tahaney capped the drive with an eight-yard touchdown run to pull the Bluejays even at 7-7 early in the first quarter.

Carthage took control of the contest by scoring on their next three possessions, extending their lead to 28-7 in the process. The Red Men added a field goal as time expired in the second quarter to take a 31-7 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Carthage tacked on another touchdown at the start of the third quarter to go up 38-7, before the Bluejays put together a 10-play, 67-yard scoring drive capped by a 32-yard touchdown pass from
Noah Henkel to Casey Dobczy.

Elmhurst finished the game with 254 yards of total offense, rushing for 88 yards while passing for 166. Tahaney led the Bluejays on the ground with 54 yards on nine carries. He also completed seven passed for 62 yards. After coming on in relief, Henkel finished 8-of-15 for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Ben Fridrich was the Bluejays' top target, catching five passes for 68 yards.
Logan Techentin added four receptions for 52 yards.

Elmhurst struggled to slow down Carthage as the Red Men totaled 554 yards of offense, rushing for 228 and passing for 326. Dana Fontenton led the Red Men on the ground with 119 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Klein finished 23-of-32 through the air for 315 yards and three touchdowns. Jovone Stricker was Carthage's top target, catching 11 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown.

Sean Jay led the Elmhurst defense with 11 tackles.
Bryce Gable tallied six tackles, including a sack ad also recovered a fumble.
Stefan Postman finished with eight stops and
Jeremy Inniss seven for Elmhurst.

The Bluejays travel to Washington University in St. Louis, next Saturday, October 12.
