WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team suffered a setback in a four-set loss at Carroll University. 

Carroll (14-11/3-3 CCIW) toppled the Bluejays 14-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-21. Elmhurst slipped to 8-19 overall and 3-3 in league play. 

Elmhurst jumped out an early lead, grabbing a 5-2 lead in the opening set and never looking back. The Bluejays led by 10 points early at 17-7 before putting the set away at 25-14 on an Emily Finkbeiner kill.

Caroll bounced back in the second, grabbing a 7-3 lead after the first 10 points. Elmhurst rallied with a 15-7 run to open up an 18-14 lead. Carroll rattled off the next five points to pull in front at 19-18 before Elmhurst pulled even at 20-20. Carroll closed the set on a 5-1 run to put the set away. 

The Pioneers scored the first three points of the third set and never trailed, leading-wire-to-wire en route to a 25-16 win. Carroll grabbed a 6-1 lead in the fourth only to have Elmhurst slowly chip away at the lead, pulling even at 20-20 following a Bailey Brouwer kill. Carroll won the next three points to take a 23-20 lead before putting the set and the match away at 25-21.

Elmhurst hit .111 for the match with 52 kills and 32 errors in 180 swings. Brouwer and Kayla Mast led the Bluejays in the loss. Brouwer pounded down 13 kills while Mast tallied a double-double of 10 kills and 16 digs. Payton Froats added nine kills while Alexandra Tyggum finished with seven. Finkbeiner finished with 26 assists while Valerie Thomas led the squad in digs with 20. 

Carroll was led by Kylie Mueller's 11 kills. Sydney Wilkins added 10 kills while Erika Dunham finished with nine. Jennilyn Joy Cave added 20 assists while Emily Konop and Cassidy Mrotek finished with 19 digs apiece. 

Elmhurst travels to North Central College on Friday, October 25.
