NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst volleyball team secured its spot in the CCIW Tournament by rolling past North Central College 25-14, 25-14, 25-15.
Elmhurst improved to 9-19 overall and 4-3 in the CCIW, securing a top-six finish and a spot in the league's postseason tournament.Â
The Bluejays scored the first four points of the opening set and led from wire-to-wire. Elmhurst built an early 12-3 lead and North Central (5-23/0-7 CCIW) came no closer than five points as Elmhurst coasted to the 25-14 win.
Elmhurst turned an 8-7 lead into a 17-9 lead after using a 9-2 run to blow things open in the second set. Elmhurst led by as many as 12 points before closing out the set at 25-14.Â
The Bluejays never trailed in the third set, turning a 10-10 lead into a 20-13 advantage with a 10-3 run. Elmhurst closed out the set at 25-15 to put away the match.Â
Elmhurst hit .340 for the contest with 40 kills and nine errors in 103 swings.
Bailey Brouwer and
Payton Froats totaled 10 kills apiece to pace a balanced Elmhurst attack.
Taylor Zurliene finished with nine kills and seven digs while
Emily Duis totaled six kills and three blocks.
Kayla Mast finished with five kills and a team-leading 15 assists.
Emily Finkbeiner totaled a team-leading 39 assists while
Valerie Thomas totaled 10 digs for the Bluejays.
North Central hit .111 with 28 kills and 17 errors in 99 attempts. Sarah Geosling led the Cardinals with six kills while Kiarah Horn totaled a team-leading 21 assists.Â
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday, October 30.Â
