ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team led 1-0 at the half, but the Bluejays could not hold off a second-half surge from Dominican, falling 3-1 to the Stars at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst (1-3) led 1-0 at the half after Alsonso Pachecko's shot off a corner kick was saved by Dominican keeper Daniel Dominguez, but
Josh Arvidson knocked the rebound into the net to stake Elmhurst to a 1-0 cushion.
Dominican (3-0) scored the equalizer early in the second half as Isaac Perez headed a touch pass from Benjamin Ibarra into the box. Perez's pass was knocked out of midair into the net by Nicolo Vitale to even the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute. Dominican went in front just five minutes later as Perez took a deflection off an Elmhurst defender for a one-on-one look. Perez tucked the ball into the corner of the net to put the Stars in front 2-1. Perez added an insurance goal in the 80th minute, scoring off a Vitale feed.
Dominican outshot Elmhurst 16-15 and held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
Donnie Kvien took the loss in net for Elmhurst despite recording five saves. Dominguez stopped six shots in goal for the Stars.
Elmhurst hosts Benedictine University on Wednesday, September 12.
