ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team dropped its CCIW opener, falling 2-0 to Carthage College at Langhorst Field.
Carthage (5-5, 2-0 CCIW) took advantage of an an Elmhurst (1-9, 0-1 CCIW) mistake after the Bluejays gave up an own goal in the 15th minute. The Red Men tacked on a goal in the second half when Adrian Herrera scored on a penalty kick in the 65th minute.
Carthage outshot Elmhurst 24-10 in the contest and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
Patrick Smith recorded nine saves in goal for Elmhurst while Niko Mavrogiannis stopped four shots for the Red Men.
Elmhurst plays at Wheaton College on Tuesday, October 2.
