ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team slipped to .500 on the season after dropping a 7-2 decision to Carthage College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Carthage (3-1, 3-1 CCIW) took two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles contests en route to the victory.
Elmhurst (3-3 overall, 0-3 CCIW) scored its doubles point at No. 2.
Rachel Rettger and
Kathryn Wheeler combined to topple Carthage's pairing of Natalie Favia and Nia Pham 8-2.
Many of the singles decisions were tightly contested with Elmhurst scoring its lone point at No. 6 when
Dacey Maglaque upended Faelan O'Shaughnessy 6-1, 6-3.
Ysabel Gonzaga fell in three sets to Maria Salerno at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-7, 6-4, 3-10. Favia defeated Rettger 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2 singles while Pham upended Wheeler 6-3, 7-4 at No. 4. Carthage's Hannah Haberle snuck by
Sarah Paist 7-5, 7-5 at No. 5 singles. The Lady Reds scored their last point at No. 1 singles with an Angelica Emmanouil 6-1, 6-2 win over
Chiara Gaudio.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on October 3.
