ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team upped its record to 4-3 on the season by doubling up Illinois Wesleyan University 6-3 at the Brune Tennis Courts.
The Bluejays picked up their first CCIW victory, improving to 1-3 in league play with the win. Illinois Wesleyan slipped to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in the CCIW.
Elmhurst won two of the three doubles matches before taking four of the six singles victories en route to the three-point victory.
In doubles play, the Bluejays' duo of
Chiara Gaudio and
Ysabel Gonzaga scored an 8-6 win over Anna Cooper and Ashley Mohr at No. 1. Elmhurst's No. 3 pairing of
Sarah Paist and
Maddy Freeman cruised past Autumn See and Kayleigh Ruffolo 8-1.
Elmhurst scored four victories in singles competition.
Kathryn Wheeler made short work of Alessia Girardin at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.
Lindsey McAuliffe followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alyssa Cholewinski at No. 5.
Rachel Rettger wrapped up the team victory for the Bluejays by defeating Cooper 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2. Gaudio picked up Elmhurst's final point of the day, rallying past Sofia Pinheiro 4-6, 7-5, 10-7 at No. 1 singles.
Elmhurst takes on Millikin at Carroll on Saturday, October 6.
