STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The Elmhurst volleyball team recorded its third consecutive victory with a 16-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18 win over Coe College at the UW-Stevens Point Tournament.
Elmhurst wrapped up the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record, improving to 7-8 on the season.
Coe jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire for the 25-16 win. Coe built an early lead in the second at 11-7, but Elmhurst answered back with a 7-1 run to take a 14-12 lead. Coe surged back in front at 17-15, but the Bluejays rattled off the next three points to move back in front. Coe pulled even at 23-all, but a kill from
Kaye Lesure and an ace from
Taylor Zurliene gave the Bluejays the set.
Elmhurst built a quick lead in the third only for Coe to pull even at 16-16. A 4-1 run from Elmhurst put the Bluejays back in front. Coe pulled to within a point at 21-20 but the Bluejays closed the set with a 4-1 run.
Elmhurst scored the opening point of the fourth set and never trailed, leading wire-to-wire to close out the set and the match.
Elmhurst hit .160 for the match with 38 kills and 17 errors in 131 swings.
Bailey Brouwer powered the Bluejays' attack with 13 kills. Zurliene added eight kills and 13 digs while
Payton Froats tallied six kills and three blocks.
Kelly Townsend tallied 15 assists while
Katie Davis finished with 14 assists and three blocks. Townsend added 14 digs and three aces in the victory while
Valerie Thomas led the team in digs with 16.
Elmhurst hosts Carroll University on Wednesday, September 26.
