Women's Tennis Team Wins Two

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team opened the 2018 season by scoring wins over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Saint Norbert College.

Elmhurst edged UW-River Falls 5-4 before closing out the day with a 6-3 victory over Saint Norbert. 

ELMHURST 5, UW-RIVER FALLS 4 - Elmhurst kicked off the season with a 5-4 win over UW-River Falls. The Bluejays won four of the six singles matches to come away with the one-point win. 

Chiara Gaudio and Ysabel Gonzaga scored Elmhurst's only win in doubles play. The Bluejays' duo scored an 8-0 win over Krista Haglund and Delanie Otto at No. 2 doubles. 

In singles action, four Bluejays picked up victories to propel the squad to the win. Rachel Rettger dispatched Natalie Nelson 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles while Gonzaga toppled Otto 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Kathryn Wheeler scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Haglund at No. 4 singles while Sarah Paist defeated Lindsey Pennel 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5. 

ELMHURST 6, SAINT NORBERT 3 -  Elmhurst finished the day undefeated by doubling up Saint Norbert 6-3. The Bluejays won two doubles contests and four singles matches en route to the victory. 

Chiara Gaudio and Rettger defeated Hannah Keller and Claire Hetzel 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Wheeler and Gonzaga upended Hannah Swajanen and Erin Vits 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. 

In singles play, Gaudio knocked off Meg Witt 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles while Gonzaga finished with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Hetzel at No. 2. Wheeler made short work of Nicole Ptofenhauer at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. Paist closed out the victory with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win over Keller at No. 5 singles. 

Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday, September 5.
