CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team won its third straight contest to open the 2018 season, defeating Roosevelt University 7-2.
Elmhurst improved to 3-0 on the season with the win while Roosevelt slipped to 0-2 with the loss.Â
The Bluejays swept the three doubles matches while taking four of the six singles contests.Â
Elmhurst started by sweeping all three doubles contests.
Chiara Gaudio and
Ysabel Gonzaga combined to defeat Gina Odisho and Kyla Eaton 8-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Rachel Rettger and
Maddy Freeman toppled Ava Collins and Emma Renteria 8-2 at No. 2 doubles. The Bluejays completed the doubles sweep when
Pamela Kobeszko and
Dacey Maglaque defeated the duo of LeAnn Peschel and Meryem Ahmed 8-1 at No. 3.Â
In singles play, Gaudio defeated Odishop 1-6, 6-1, 10-4 at No. 1 singles. Rettger followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Eaton at No. 2. Gonzaga upended Renteria 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Maglaque closed out singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ahmed at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst opens CCIWÂ play by traveling to North Central College on Wednesday, September 12.Â
