NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, slipping to 3-1 on the season after suffering a 7-2 road loss at North Central College.
North Central (5-1, 3-1 CCIW) opened play by sweeping all three doubles matches before taking four of the six singles contests.
No. 1 and No. 2 doubles were decided by just three points apiece. Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay downed Elmhurst's duo of Chiara Gauido and Yssabel Gonazag 8-5 at No. 1. Diana Barcelata and Morgan House combined to stop the Bluejays' team of
Rachel Rettger and
Sarah Paist 8-5 at No. 2.
Kathryn Wheeler and
Dacey Maglaque scored Elmhurst's points in singles play. Wheeler rallied from a set down to defeat House 2-6, 6-3, 10-2 at No. 4 singles. Maglaque upended Tiffany Smolik 7-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.
Elmhurst plays at Wheaton College on Friday, September 14.
