WHEATON, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team dropped to 3-2 on the season after suffering an 8-1 loss at Wheaton College.
Wheaton (5-0, 3-0 CCIW) won all six singles matches while taking two of the three doubles mathes. The Bluejays fell to 0-2 in the CCIWÂ with the loss.Â
Wheaton's Claire Browning and Nicole Freeman downed Chiara Guaido and
Ysabel Gonzaga 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Emma Westwick and Lindsay Anderson stopped Elmhurst's pair of
Sarah Paist and
Maddy Freeman 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Elmhurst's point came at No. 2 doubles where
Kathryn Wheeler and
Rachel Rettger combined to defeat Sara Magnuson and Bethany Hoogerheide 8-5.Â
The Thunder swept all six singles matches. Five matches were decided in straight sets, except for No. 1 singles where Westwick had to rally past Gaudio 2-6, 6-1, 10-2.Â
Elmhurst competes at the ITA Regional on September 21-24 at Kalamazoo College.
