GREENVILLE, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Greenville College as the Panthers scored the game-winning goal as time expired at the end of double overtime. 

Elmhurst slid to 1-5 with the loss while Greenville climbed to 4-1 overall. 

After a scoreless first half, the Bluejays grabbed a lead early in the second half when Alex Lains netted a goal off an assist from Arnold Jaime. The one-goal lead held up until the 87th minute when Jared McPeek nocked home a goal off a feed from Juan Jose Herrans. 

The game appeared destined to be headed for a 1-1 draw when a yellow card with 16 seconds left in the second overtime gave Greenville a free kick just across midfield. The Panthers free kick was headed back out of the box by the Bluejays. Edgar Bueno collected the ball and chipped a pass over the Elmhurst defense where McPeek headed the ball home as time expired, giving Greenville the 2-1 victory.

Both teams finished with 11 shots in the contest. Elmhurst held a 9-4 edge in corner kicks in the contest. 

Donnie Kvien took the loss in goal for Elmhurst while making one save. Nick Holland recorded five saves in net for the Panters.

Elmhurst plays at Principia College tomorrow (September 15).
