WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Elmhurst volleyball team had its two-match winning streak snapped in a three set loss to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
 
Elmhurst slipped to 4-6 on the season after dropping the match 25-16, 25-15, 27-25.
 
Whitewater (6-2) cruised to a 14-7 lead in the opening set before Elmhurst closed to within five points at 20-15. The Warhawks used a 5-1 run to close out the set at 25-16. Leading 9-7 in the second, Whitewater use a 9-3 run to build an 18-10 lead before coasting to the 25-15 victory.
 
In the third, Whitewater turned an 11-9 lead into a 20-12 cushion with a 9-3 run. The Warhawks led 24-17 before Elmhurst ripped off seven straight points to pull even at 24-all. The Warhawks set up another match point at 25-24, but the Bluejays fought off their eighth match point of the night to even the set at 25-25. An error on the Bluejays and a kill from Hope Wissbroecker gave the Warhawks the set and the match.
 
Elmhurst finished with 27 kills and 17 errors in 114 attacks, hitting .088 for the match. Bailey Brouwer led the charge for Elmhurst, finishing with 11 kills. Kaye Lesure added three kills for Elmhurst in the loss. Kelly Townsend totaled 19 assists and 12 digs while Rachel Shuty served up three aces. Valerie Thomas led the team in digs with 16. Emily Duis totaled three blocks for the Bluejays.
 
Rachel Butterfield paced the Warhawks with 14 kills while Erin McNeil added 11. Brittany Robinson led the team in digs with 21.
 
Elmhurst travels to Dominican University on Friday, September 14.
