WAUKESHA, Wis. -
Jordan Scrimpsher and
Christian Ott slugged two home runs apiece and drove in a combined nine runs to lead the Elmhurst baseball team to a 16-2 rout of Carroll University.
Elmhurst upped its record to 20-16 overall and 10-11 in the CCIW with the victory. The Bluejays moved to within a half game of North Park University for the fourth and final spot in the upcoming CCIW Tournament.
The Bluejays scored early and often, scoring in every inning while banging out 17 hits. Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on
Trey Compton's RBI single. A sacrifice fly from
James Wick in the second gave the Bluejays a 2-0 lead. RBIs from
Jacob McMillan and
Matt Wilson in the third extended Elmhurst's lead to 4-0.
Ott slugged a solo homer in the fourth and Compton added an RBI double to move the Bluejays up to a 6-0 lead. Carroll got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but an RBI double from
Austin MacMillan and a two-run homer from Ott put the Bluejays a 9-1 lead.
The Pioneers plated a run in the bottom of the fifth, but Scrimpsher smashed a two-run homer in the sixth to put Elmhurst in front 11-2. Elmhurst tacked on five runs in the seventh, with Scrimpsher delivering the key blow with a grand slam.
Scrimpsher led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with six RBIs. Ott drove in three and scored three runs while homering twice.
Reagan McReynolds, Compton, McMillan, MacMillan and Wick all collected two hits. McReynolds scored three runs while McMillan scored three and drove in one. Compton knocked in a pair of runs while Wick scored two and drove in one.
Nick Drago picked up the win for the Bluejays from the mound. Drago worked six innings and allowed just seven hits and two earned runs. He walked two while fanning three.
Alec Berry finished up in relief, allowing just one walk in one inning of work.
Elmhurst plays at Wheaton College on Friday, May 4.
