Bluejays Drop Final Game to Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team dropped to 5-4 in the CCIW after falling 11-6 to Millikin in the final game of a three-game weekend series.

After winning the first two games yesterday, Elmhurst came up short in its chance to sweep the season series. The Bluejays dropped to 14-8 overall while Millikin upped its record to 12-10 overall and 2-6 in league play.

Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Jacob McMillan doubled home a run. Millikin broke things open in the second by sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring six runs. The Big Blue tacked on a run in the third to extend their lead to 7-1.

RBI singles from Tyler Kledzik and McMillan in the fourth brought Elmhurst to within four at 7-4, but Millikin answered back with a run in the bottom of the fifth to extend its lead to 8-3.

Trey Compton singled home a run in the sixth to bring back to a four-run deficit, but Millikin scored three straight runs to push its lead to seven.

Elmhurst pushed home two runs in the eighth on an RBI single from McMillan and a bases loaded walk to Karson Thomas. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the Bluejays' scoring threat and helped the Big Blue preserve the five-run victory.

McMillan led Elmhurst in the loss, finishing with three hits and three RBIs. Compton added three hits and knocked in one while Kledzik, Reagan McReynolds and James Wick finished with two hits apiece.

Anthony Bryan led Millikin at the dish, finishing 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Jordan Scrimpsher made the start for Elmhurst and took the loss, surrendering three hits and six runs in 1.1 innings of work. Michael Staszuk picked up the win in relief for Millikin, tossing 1.2 innings and surrendering just two hits while striking out two.

Elmhurst hosts Carroll University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 10.
