Bluejays Drop CCIW Opener to Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team slipped to 5-5 on the season after dropping its CCIW opening contest 20-10 at Carroll University.
 
Elmhurst fell to 0-1 in the CCIW while Carroll remained unbeaten on the season, improving to 10-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.
 
Carroll scored the first six goals of the contest, including four consecutive scores from Clara Jelacic,  to quickly pull in front. Ellen Brown cut into the lead with a goal with 17:35 left, but back-to-back goals from Tillia Dillon and Jelacic put Carroll up 8-1 with 14:27 left in the opening half.

Goals from Grace Knoebel and Larissa Arvanites brought Elmhurst to within five with 5:23 left in the opening half. Carroll fired in two straight goals 40 seconds apart to go back in front by seven, but back-to-back scores from Knoebel brought Elmhurst to within five (10-5) at halftime.
 
Carroll opened the second half with a 4-1 run, extending their lead to nine in the process. An Arvanites goal pulled Elmhurst to within seven, but three straight Carroll goals gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the game at 10. Elmhurst and Carroll traded goals for the final 18 minutes of the contest as Carroll cruised to the 10-goal victory.
 
Carroll outshot Elmhurst 41-19 and enjoyed a 45-16 edge in ground balls. The Pioneers also won 25-of-32 draw controls.
 
Knoebel led Elmhurst in the loss with four goals and six draw controls. Brown added four points, finishing with three goals and an assist. Arvanites scored twice while Isabel Walker finished with three points on a goal and two assists.  Megan Keener took the loss in goal despite recording 12 saves.
 
Jelacic paced Carroll with nine goals while Michaela Johnson totaled eight points on four goals and four assists. Shelby Schoob recorded four saves in goal to record the win for the Pioneers.
 
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 11.
