ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst baseball team jumped back into the CCIW Tournament picture by sweeping a doubleheader from Carthage College. The Bluejays took the first game 7-6 and then finished the sweep with a 2-1 victory in game two.

Elmhurst improved to 19-13 overall and upped its CCIW record to 9-8, moving a half game in front of Illinois Wesleyan University for the fourth and final spot in the CCIW Tournament. Carthage fell to 24-8 overall and 11-6 in league play.

ELMHURST 7, CARTHAGE 6 (Game One) – Jacob McMillan drove in the game-winning run with a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth to lead Elmhurst to a 7-6 victory over Carthage in game one.

Carthage raced out to a 3-0 lead after scoring two in the first and one in the third. Elmhurst cut into the lead with two run in the bottom of the third.
Trey Compton singled home a run to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard. McMillan followed with an RBI double to make the score 3-2.

Elmhurst sent nine batters to the plate in the fifth, pulling even at 3-3 on an RBI single from McMillan. Back-to-back bases loaded walks to
Matt Wilson and
Austin MacMillan gave Elmhurst a 5-3 lead.

Carthage plated two runs in the top of the seventh to level the score at 5-5. The Red Men went in front 6-5 on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth.
James Wick led off the eight for Elmhurst with a double.
Trevor Horwath was hit by a pitch and
Reagan McReynolds laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. A sacrifice fly from Compton allowed Wick to score the tying run with Horwath taking third after the throw went wide of the plate. McMillan followed with a line drive single to center to drive in the winning run.

McMillan finished 3-for-5 at the plate with a team-leading three RBIs in the victory. McRenolds scored two runs while Horwath collected two hits and scored two runs.

Nick Drago made the start and took a no-decision. Drago went six innings, allowing 11 hits and five runs. He walked one while striking out two.
Alex Kielion picked up the win in relief, tossing the final three innings and allowing just three hits and one run while striking out one.
ELMHURST 2, CARTHAGE 1 (Game Two) – Jordan Scrimpsher delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Elmhurst to the doubleheader sweep with a 2-1 victory.

Carthage grabbed a run in the top of the third to take an early 1-0 lead. After not having a base runner in through the first four innings, the Bluejays tied the game with a run in the fifth. The Bluejays loaded the bases on a
Jordan Scrimpsher single and a pair of hit batters. Elmhurst evened the score at 1-1 on
James Wick's fielder's choice grounder.
Carthage had a chance to reclaim the lead in the seventh. With a runner on first and two down, Ryan Kramer doubled to the left field corner but Colton Klein was cut down at the plate on a relay throw from
Trevor Horwath.

The Bluejays threatened in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with one out thanks to an error, a walk and a hit batter, but a strikeout and a fielder's choice grounder ended Elmhurst's scoring chance. Â The Bluejays had a chance to end the game in the ninth after loading the bases with one out, but a strikeout and fly out ended the threat and sent the game into extra innings.

Elmhurst put the game away in the 10th.
Reagan McReynolds drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on
Trey Compton's sacrifice bunt. After a strikeout, Scrimpsher delivered the game-winner, roping a single through the left side of the infield. McReynolds beat the throw to the plate to trigger the Elmhurst celebration on the field.
Scrimpsher collected two of Elmhurst's three hits in the victory.
Calvin Truong made the start and earned a no-decision, working seven innings and limiting Carthage to just six hits and one run. He walked four and struck out one.
Alec Berry picked up the win in relief. Berry worked the final three innings, surrendering just one hit and one walk while fanning four.
