ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst baseball team moved to 16-13 overall after splitting a doubleheader with the University of Chicago. Elmhurst won the opener 2-1 before dropping the second game 3-1.
ELMHURST 2, CHICAGO 1 (Game One) - James Wick singled home the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lead the Bluejays to a 2-1 walk-off win over Chicago.
Elmhurst grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a
Tyler Kledzik sacrifice fly, but Chicago evened the score with a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth.
Christian Ott reached base and took second on a throwing error by the Maroons. Wick followed with the walk-off single to right field to give the Bluejays the win.
Austin MacMillan went the distance from the mound and earned the win in a pitcher's dual. MacMillan improved to 4-1 on the season while limiting Chicago to just five hits, one run. He walked one and struck out one.
CHICAGO 3, ELMHURST 1 - Chicago limited Elmhurst to just four hits while coming away with a 3-1 victory.
The Maroons scored a run in the third on a sacrifice bunt and added two runs in the fourth on a two-run single from Max Larsen.
Elmhurst cashed in on a Chicago error in the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-1. Elmhurst had a chance in the bottom of the seventh as a walk to MacMillan and a single from Calvin Truong put the tying runs on base with no outs. A flyout and double play grounder ended the Bluejays' scoring threat and the contest.
Jordan Scrimpsher made the start and took the loss, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings of work. He walked three and struck out three.
