ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team won its ninth consecutive contest by blowing out University of Dubuque 20-2 at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst upped its record to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the CCIW while Dubuque slid to 6-7 and 0-2 in conference play.
The Bluejays scored early and often while racing out to an 10-goal lead at halftime.
Mac Harden started the scoring less than two minutes into the contest, but Dubuque pulled even three minutes later on a goal from Michael Julius. The Bluejays ripped off the next four straight goals to end the quarter.
Cullen Nordemann and
Andrew Frerich scored just 14 seconds apart to put the Bluejays up by two. Harden added his second of the contest with 3:52 remaining to give Elmhurst a 4-1 lead. A turnover at the end of the quarter by Dubuque led to Harden scoring at the buzzer off a long pass from
CJ Galante, giving Elmhurst a 5-1 lead after 15 minutes.
Dan Curley scored the first goal of the second quarter just 20 seconds into the start of the period. Michael Jango took advantage of an Elmhurst penalty to score on the man-advantage for Dubuque, making the score 7-2 in favor of the Bluejays. Dubuque would not score again as the Bluejays finished the contest with 13 unanswered goals. Nordemann and then Harden added back-to-back tallies to put the Bluejays up 10-2 with 8:33 left in the half.
Marcus Yandall and Frerich added goals before the half to give Elmhurst a 12-2 lead at the break.
Elmhurst outscored Dubuque 8-0 in the second half as
Andrew Lentz, Frerich, Nordemann,
Dan O'Connell, Curley,
Jake Heil and Yandall tacked on goals for the Bluejays.
The Bluejays outshot the Spartans 47-21 and held a 37-22 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays also won 20-of-25 faceoffs in the win.
Harden and Frerich led the way for the Bluejays with each player finishing with seven points on the night. Harden totaled six goals and one assist while Frerich tallied three goals and a team-high four assists.Nordemann finished with five points on four goals and an assist while Curley totaled two goals and two assists in the victory.
Andrew Lentz (one goal, one assist) and Yandall (two goals) also finished with multiple points on the night.
Carter Meyer won 18-of-23 faceoffs attempts and totaled seven ground balls. Jacob Delgado earned the win in the net with seven saves.
Julius and Jango scored one goal apiece to pace the Spartans. Kyle Mullins took the loss, allowing 18 goals while recording nine saves in 45 minutes.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Sunday, April 15.
