Harden & Meyer Set Records in Bluejays' Win over Beloit

ELMHURST, Ill. – Mac Harden and Carter Meyer both set new single-game school records as the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team rolled past Beloit 20-9 at Langhorst Field.

Harden scored eight goals and set a new-single game Elmhurst record with 11 points while Meyer set single-game records for faceoff wins and ground balls. 
 
Elmhurst upped its season record to 7-1 overall while winning its sixth consecutive contest.
 
Beloit (4-4) went in front 1-0 after an Elmhurst defender knocked the ball into the Bluejays' own goal, giving the Buccaneers a lead early in the first quarter. The Bluejays answered back with five straight goals to surge in front. Andrew Frerich and Harden scored twice in the Bluejays' run while Marcus Yandall also found the back of the net. Beloit's Mark Gannon scored with 30 seconds left in the quarter to cut Elmhurst's lead down to 5-2, but Carter Meyer won the ensuing faceoff and promptly scored to give Elmhurst a 6-2 lead after 15 minutes.
 
The Bluejays dominated the second quarter, outscoring Beloit 6-0 while building a 12-2 lead at the half. The Bluejays outshot the Buccaneers 38-8 in the game's first 30 minutes.

Beloit scored twice early in the third quarter to cut the Bluejays' lead down to eight, but Ty Funderburk and Harden responded with goals to put the Bluejays back up by 10. Beloit took advantage of an Elmhurst penalty to score two straight man-advantage goals, pulling to within eight with 2:19 left in the third quarter, but Harden netted a shorthanded goal to put the Bluejays up by nine (15-6) entering the fourth quarter.
 
Elmhurst scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter and outscored Beloit 5-3 in the final 15 minutes to pull away for the 11-goal victory.
 
Elmhurst outshot Beloit 60-29 for the contest and held a 52-28 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays converted 18-of-22 clear attempts.
 
Harden broke the Elmhurst single-game points record by finishing with 11 points, bettering the previous record of 10 set by Alex Opyd in 2015 by one point. Harden's eight goals ranks as the second-highest single-game total in school history. Andrew Frerich finished with a four points, totaling a hat trick of three goals to go with an assist. Yandall added two goals and two assists while Andrew Lentz and Jake Heil tallied two goals apiece. Meyer added three points on a goal and two assists while Funderburk and Jake Camrbon tallied a goal and an assist apiece.
 
Harden wasn't the only Bluejay setting records in the victory. Meyer established new single-game records for faceoffs won by winning 24-of-31 attempts. He also shattered the single-game ground ball record by scooping up 25, bettering the previous mark of 15 by 10.

Jacob Delgado picked up the win in the cage, tallying 10 saves while allowing nine goals.
 
Matt Lee paced Beloit in the loss with four points, tallying three goals and an assist. Kevin Joswiak added two goals for the Buccaneers.
 
Elmhurst travels to Albion College on Saturday, March 31.
