BANNOCKBURN, Ill. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss to St. Catherine University at College Park East Athletic Club.
Elmhurst fell to 5-9 on the season with the loss while St. Catherine upped its record to 7-3 overall.
St. Catherine won two of the three doubles contests before winning four of the six singles matches.
In doubles action, St. Kate's Bri Dorr and Ella Graham combined to stop Elmhurst's duo of
Rachel Rettger and
Kathryn Wheeler 8-4 at No. 1. The Wildcat's pair of Julia Sporer and Leah Obert upended the Bluejays' pairing of
Dacey Maglaque and
Bridget Lopez 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Elmhurst took home the win at No. 2. doubles with
Chiara Gaudio and
Ysabel Gonzaga defeating Maddy Knoll and Aubrey Ecstrom 9-7.
Gaudio and Wheeler scored singles victories for the Bluejays. Gaudio scored a 7-5, 2-6, 10-6 win over Dorr at No. 1 while Wheeler dispatched Graham 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.
Alisha Wiedmeier defeated Gonzaga 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 while Sporer toppled Rettger 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3. Knoll stopped Maglaque 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 while Eckstrom blanked Lopez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Elmhurst closes out its 2017-18 season on March 31, by taking on Lake Forest College at College Park West.
