Knoebel & Walker Power Bluejays Past Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Grace Knoebel poured in eight goals while Isabel Walker added five to lead the Elmhurst women's lacrosse team to a 16-7 road win at Monmouth College. 

Knoebel totaled eight goals and finished with nine points, finishing one goal and one point shy of matching the single-game records she set just 20 days ago against St. Mary's College. 

Elmhurst upped its record to 4-3 with the win while Monmouth slid to 1-5. 

Monmouth scored the game's opening goal on a Kara-Jade Gordon free position shot, but the Bluejays used a 5-1 run over the next 14 minutes to open up a 5-2 lead. Knoebel scored twice while Isabel Walker pumped in three goals for the Bluejays in the stretch. After Gordon scored to cut the Bluejays' lead down to two with 10 minutes left in the half, Elmhurst scored three straight to close the half with an 8-3 lead. Knoebel fired home two goals while Walker added another. Both Knoebel and Walker finished with four goals in the opening half. 

The two squads alternated goals for the first 15 minutes of the second half with Monmouth cutting the Bluejays lead down to four with 14 minutes left to play in contest. Elmhurst rattled off the next six goals to blow the game open. Knoebel scored three times in the Bluejays' run while Larissa Arvanites added two goals and Theresa Marcello also scored for Elmhurst. 

Knoebel finished with eight goals and nine points on 18 shots while also leading the team with seven draw controls. Walker tallied seven points, finishing with five goals and two assists. Arvintes added two goals while Marcello accounted for the other. Ellen Brown led the team in ground balls with five.

Megan Keener picked up the win in goal, recording 14 saves while allowing seven goals. 

Gordon powered Monmouth with four goals and five points while Amanda Green added two goals for the Scots. Kaitlin Korf took the loss in net, allowing 16 goals while recording 14 saves. 

Elmhurst outshot Monmouth 37-31 while converting on 2-of-7 chances from free position. 

Elmhurst hosts Loras College on Wednesday, March 28.
