ORLANDO, Fla. - The Elmhurst women's tennis team scored its first win on its Florida road trip, upending Western New England University 6-3.
Elmhurst improved to 4-9 on the season with the win while Western New England dell to 4-8 overall.
Elmhurst took two of the three doubles matches before winning four of six singles contests.
In doubles play,
Kathryn Wheeler and
Rachel Rettger downed Maylene LaPress and Morgan Schrader 8-4 at No. 1.
Chiara Gaudio and
Ysabel Gonzaga followed with an 8-4 win over Rachel Bauer and Christina D'Agostino at No. 2 doubles. The Bluejays' No. 3 doubles squad of
Dacey Maglaque and
Meg Simon lost a narrow 9-8 decision to Petra Martinelli and Kyra Palumbo.
In singles play, Gaudio toppled LaPress 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 at No. 1 before Schrader toppled Gonzaga at No. 2 6-1, 6-1. Rettger scored a 6-1, 6-2 victory over D'Agostino at No. 3 and Wheeler upended Bauer 7-5, 6-0 at No. 4. Martinelli toppled Maglaque 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles while Elmhurst's
Bridget Lopez closed singles play with a 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 victory over Jessica Cote.
