Women's Lacrosse Stumbles at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Elmhurst women's lacrosse team slipped to 3-3 on the season after falling 21-7 in a road contest at Virginia Wesleyan University. 

Virginia Wesleyan (6-1) scored the game's first three goals, building a 3-0 lead just over four minutes into the contest. Elmhurst answered back with three straight goals, coming in the span of just 2:26. Grace Knoebel started the scoring with a free position goal before Isabel Walker followed with back-to-back goals, evening the score at 3-3. 

Virginia Wesleyan closed the half on a 7-0 run to take control and build a 10-3 lead at the half. 

Larissa Arvintes scored early in the second to pull Elmhurst to within six, but a goal from Megan Schallock put Virginia Wesleyan back up by seven. Walker's third goal of the game with 27:30 left to play brought the Bluejays to within six for a second time, but Virginia Wesleyan rattled off the next 10 goals to open up a 16-goal lead at 21-5. 

Walker and Knoebel added goals near the end of the contest to make the final score 21-7. 

Virginia Wesleyan outshot Elmhurst 34-18 and held a 19-10 lead in ground balls. 

Walker paced Elmhurst's offense in the loss, finishing with a team-leading four goals while Knoebel added two goals. 

Megan Keener stopped two shots in goal while Maggie Durkin finished up in goal, recording four saves. 

Liza Holford led Virginia Wesleyan with five goals while Avery Frangelli, Megan Schallock and Tori Manahan all scored three goals apiece. Jordan Moilanen earned the win in goal with eight saves.
