Records Fall in Bluejays' Blowout Win At Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse team crushed Adrian College 27-3, setting five new school records and tying another in the process. 
 
Elmhurst (4-1) scored early and often, dominating the Adrian (0-3) for the first half while racing out to a 21-1 lead at the half before coasting the 24-goal win. Elmhurst scored the first six goals of the game, pumping in all six in the first five minutes of action. Adrian got on the board with 9:27 left in the first period, but Elmhurst scored the next 18 goals over the next 40 minutes of action to blow the game open.
 
The Bluejays tied the school record for goals in a game with 27 while setting new single-game records for points (52) and assists (25).
 
Ty Funderburk and Andrew Frerich both bettered the Elmhurst single-game points and assists record. Funderburk set a new school record for points in a game with 13 while Frerich tallied 11 points, bettering the previous record of 10. Funderburk dished out seven assists in the victory, establishing a new single-game record in the process. Frerich's six-assist game also bettered the previous mark of five.  Mac Harden, already Elmhurst's all-time points leader, became Elmhurst's all-time leader in assists by dishing out two assists in the victory. Harden now stands at 39 assists for his career.
 
The trio of Funderburk, Harden and Frerich powered Elmhurst's offense. Funderburk totaled six goals and seven assists while Harden tallied six goals and two assists. Frerich finished with five goals and six assists in the victory. Jack Cambron added two goals and two assists for the Bluejays while Jake Heil and Marcus Yandall finished with four points each. Both players tallied a goal and three assists in the victory. Trent Nyberg, CJ Galante, Andrew Lentz, Eric Shaw, Dan O'Connell and Luke Richardson also scored goals in the Elmhurst victory. O'Connell and Nyberg each added an assist two finish with two point apiece. Jacob Delgado earned the win in the cage, allowing three goals while recording six saves. Carter Meyer won 18-of-20 faceoffs while picking up a team-leading 12 ground balls.
 
Elmhurst outshot Adrian 51-14 and held a 47-22 edge in ground balls. The Bluejays were successful on 10-of-12 clear attempts
 
Michael Turner scored two goals for Adrian while Fernando Rodriguez added the final goal for the Bulldogs.
 
Elmhurst hosts Olivet College next Saturday, March 17.
