ELMHURST, Ill. - Second half goals from
Angel Carreno and
Austin Culver propelled the Elmhurst men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Augustana College.
The win was the Bluejays' second straight CCIW victory, upping the team's conference record to 2-5 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, Elmhurst (3-13) broke through in the second half. Carreno struck first in the 53rd minute, blasting a shot from the top of the box to the far post.
Elmhurst tacked on an insurance goal in the 85th minute.
Keegan Thompson's pass deflected off an Augustana defender and landed at the foot of a wide-open Culver. Culver connected on the open look to double the Bluejays' lead to two.
Elmhurst outshot Augustana 14-10 and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Patrick Smith recorded his second straight shutout in goal, stopping all three shots he faced. Jeff Bell recorded six saves in goal for Augustana while taking the loss.
Elmhurst travels to Knox College on Monday, October 22.
